Changes!

Over winter break some changes took place in the ceramics and sculpture area. I set out to rearrange the portion of the studio with all of our potters wheels. Using scrap wood from the wood shop I constructed a long bench like table to fit between all of the potters wheels. The purpose of this is to help make class time more efficient. Students can now have multiple balls of clay in front of them and do not have to get up after each throwing attempt on the wheel to wedge more clay. It also helps make the space look a little more organized. Check out the before and after images.

We also ordered a new kiln over break which is now up and running. This will replace an older electric kiln that we have been having issues with. 

Student Work from Fall 2015

It has been a while since the last post, so I thought I would share some of the work made by students here at LaGrange College. 

The Ceramics Concepts class was a smaller group of students, but each student had some prior experience working with clay. Students were given the option to either use hand building techniques or the potters wheel to construct each assignment. Here are a few examples of projects from this class. 

The Ceramics Methods & Materials class is designed as a beginning course for students who have no prior experience with clay. We covered many processes including: coil building, slab building, solid building, mold-making, and wheelthrowing. Below are some examples from this semester. 

Below are a few selected images from our 3D Design class this past fall. Projects were designed around different elements and principles of design which were discussed in class lectures and readings. Each project varied in both material and process.
